Location: Based in Dartmouth, NS and travel throughout Atlantic Canada

Reporting to the Sancton Equipment Vice President, and working closely with internal & external customers, operations, Yard & Field Supervisors & Foremen, and manufacturer’s representatives, the Mechanic is responsible for upkeep of company owned assets, oversee maintenance, inspections, monitor inventory, assemble mechanical components, and perform repairs along with any administrative duties associated with this role.

The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who may not know the answer to a question but will certainly find it and then use this learning for continued development in the role. Confident in your ability to problem solve and articulate solutions. You seek to understand how all the parts and pieces come together successfully to ensure equipment runs efficiently and safely. Attention to detail is needed to catch variances in advance of errors being made. You work well independently while easily moving into all-hands-on-deck mode when necessary.

As the Mechanic, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Adhere to company Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Assist in developing and implementing mechanical best practices to optimize efficiency.
  • Assist internal stakeholders with customer needs and/or rentals, as required.
  • Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) aiming to vehicle functionality and longevity on machinery, systems, and automotive vehicles.
  • Examine equipment and oversee diagnostic tests to determine functionality problems.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues through thorough inspections and testing of equipment.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on various machinery, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Assemble mechanical components according to specifications.
  • Utilize hand tools and power tools effectively to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Design a plan of action for all maintenance tasks and upgrades.
  • Maintain work logs, repairs, and maintenance records.
  • Monitor inventory and order new parts when necessary.
  • Offer consultation on maintenance and preventative procedures with internal & external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other team members to troubleshoot complex mechanical problems.
  • Other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.

  • 1-3 years in a Mechanical Role or related industry.
  • Proven mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in repair and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in Heavy Equipment diagnostic and mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required for report writing, customer communication and internal planning and organization.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize deadlines, and handle administrative responsibilities efficiently.
  • Proficiency of Mechanical Equipment, Electrical over Hydraulics, Electrical over Air is considered an asset.
  • Experience as a Diesel Mechanic is considered an asset.
  • Red Seal Mechanic or in related field is considered an asset.
